Gold at CAC Juniors

Akela Jones won Bar­ba­dos’ third gold medal of the Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean Junior Track and Field Cham­pi­onships in Mex­ico on Sat­ur­day, Day Two of the Championships.

Jones was the favourite to win gold in the Under-​20 Girls’ Long Jump and she duly deliv­ered with a big leap of 6.41 metres. She was the only ath­lete to go beyond the six-​metre mark, with Jamaica’s Annasta­cia For­rester tak­ing sec­ond place with 5.90 metres. Panama’s Nathalee Aranda was third with 5.82 metres.

At the end of the first two days of com­pe­ti­tion, Bar­ba­dos was sixth in the medal stand­ing with seven medals – three gold, one sil­ver and three bronze.
