Inno­v­a­tive Agri­cul­ture — Cel­e­brat­ing 10 Years of Agrofest”

Feb­ru­ary 28, 2014 will sig­nal the start of the three day event pro­duced by the Bar­ba­dos Agri­cul­tural Soci­ety in con­nec­tion with the Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture — Agro­fest. Hosted annu­ally in Queens Park, Bridgetown, Agro­fest is one of the largest events in Bar­ba­dos and the “Agro-​event” presents patrons with a unique oppor­tu­nity to expe­ri­ence all the facets of Bar­ba­dos’ agri­cul­tural sec­tor in a relaxed, fun and com­fort­able environment.

agrofest2Agro­fest is used to sen­si­tize Bar­ba­di­ans to the value of the agri­cul­tural sec­tor, of food secu­rity and of agri­cul­tural effects on our econ­omy. Allow­ing veg­etable & fruit farm­ers, live­stock farm­ers, fish­er­men, as well as per­sons involved in hor­ti­cul­ture and other areas to come together in order to show­case a vari­ety of high qual­ity local prod­ucts, pro­mote the use of new and improved appro­pri­ate tech­nol­ogy for crop pro­duc­tion, demon­strate the close rela­tion­ship between the agri­cul­tural sec­tor and other sec­tors, and to show the envi­ron­men­tal well-​being.

It is an occa­sion to present the many oppor­tu­ni­ties, which are avail­able for career choices and advance­ment within the indus­try, while pro­vid­ing over­seas investors and guests of the exhi­bi­tion the oppor­tu­nity to show off their products.

Over­all Objec­tives of Agrofest:
  • To demon­strate the sym­bi­otic rela­tion­ship between agri­cul­ture and the rest of the community.
  • To high­light the impact of agri­cul­ture on other eco­nomic sectors.
  • To cater to the wide and diver­gent inter­ests of the Bar­ba­dian public.
  • To demon­strate the agri­cul­tural career oppor­tu­ni­ties for young people.
  • To demon­strate the impor­tance of agri­cul­ture in feed­ing and pro­vid­ing eco­nomic sup­port to the family.
  • To por­tray agri­cul­ture in a fun and inter­est­ing way.
